Information for Applicants


  • DenkRaum Fellowships will be awarded for a total of two years. DenkRaum will be launched with a two day retreat at the end of 2020.


  • Up to 20,000 € per year will be available to each Fellow individually to further their own research and teaching and to create scope for their joint DenkRaum projects.
  • Up to 60,000 € per year will be jointly available to the Fellows, for their projects and events.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Applicants who are engaged in research and/or teaching at Kiel University or one of its Clusters of Excellence and who at the time of application should have been a postdoctoral scholar for one year at least and seven years at most. All applicants should have an excellent PhD and a strong interest in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations.

How to apply for a DenkRaum Fellowship?

  • Please apply using our application form (pdf) and send this via email, with all documents required, to by September 13, 2020.
  • From among all applications submitted on time, up to 12 persons will be selected for interview. Interviews are planned on October 26/27 2020.
  • The top six candidates will be awarded a DenkRaum Fellowship for two years.

What is expected from DenkRaum Fellows?

  • Passion for their academic subject and enthusiasm for Urban Design. The Shape and Shaping of Cities in the Past, Present and Future, the topic of this call.
  • Openness, communication skills, the willingness to engage in scientific dispute; they should be solution-oriented as a basis for their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations in DenkRaum
  • Regular, active participation at DenkRaum meetings and events
  • Together, to develop and commit to implementing interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with non-university actors.
