Title project idea: A Just Transformation? The Reconstruction of Cities in Times of Climate Emergeny

I am a human geographer and my research interests include human-environmental relations, critical development research, urban research and urban climate policy. In my current project I am investigating the socio-spatial implications of urban climate policy using the city of Kiel and its call for climate emergency as an example. With regard to the energetic refurbishment of residential buildings, questions of mobility and the design and use of urban space, the notion of justice within the transformation of cities on the way to a post-fossil age is a pressing issue.

Against this background, urban design needs to face the challenge of climate and just urban development: How can ecological and social demands and needs be combined with inclusive design, thus avoiding further displacement and exclusion?
